Part of the CEC's work is building community and facilitating community discussions. Many of these discussions are related to funding for education. On this page, we provide information and direction for community members to advocate for our children and their education.

Alaska is experiencing a fiscal crisis and lawmakers have tough decisions ahead to balance the state budget. Recent cuts will mean devastating changes to schools across our state. Specifically, at Chugach Optional we will likely see the following changes:
The loss of TWO of our ELEVEN classroom teachers (yes, almost 20% reduction in the number of teachers in our school). This will mean extreme increases in class sizes. We could see as many as 44 students per classroom.
The loss of 50% of Amy, our beloved librarian's time. She will only be at Chugach half-time.
The loss of 50% of Maya, our amazing nurse's time. She will only be at Chugach half-time.
The loss of office and administrative support.
The loss of the IGNITE program.
The loss of band and orchestra.
We can advocate for our school and for Alaska's children. Below are several ways you can take to make your voice heard. Don't forget to tell your friends and family that they can advocate as well. Feel free to share our page, they can make changes as needed to represent their own voices and families.
