Science Share is Chugach Optional's non-competitive Science Fair that challenges students to practice the scientific method with their own experiment and share their findings with our Chugach community. All students are invited to participate by completing a science project and meeting a Community Scientist on Science Share night. All fifth and sixth graders are required to participate in Science Share.
Students completing projects must register online so they can be assigned a mentor on Science Share night. Please click the button above to register.
All Science Share projects should be brought to school on or before Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026. Students will informally present their projects to their family groups throughout the week. Click here for more information and student handouts.
This year's Science Share will take place on Thursday, Feb. 19, 5:30-7:30 p.m. On Science Share night, students will have an assigned time to speak with an adult Community Scientist about their project. It is truly a fun night for the whole family, with pizza, cookies, and grade-appropriate science scavenger hunts to encourage exploration of all science projects.
The Alaska Science and Engineering Fair will take place March 27-28, 2026. It is open to all elementary school students.
We need adult Community Scientists (20-30 total!) to serve as science mentors and meet with students individually about projects on Science Share night. These mentors can be anyone from our Chugach community, including parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents with a science background (professional or informal).
The job of a Community Scientist is to allow each student the opportunity to communicate about their research and provide positive oral and written feedback. Science Share is a non-competitive event designed to create conversations between adult Community Scientists and students. Through these conversations, Community Scientists help to inspire and engage our young scientists for the future.
On Science Share night, you will be provided a clipboard and a list of 2-5 science projects to review during specific 20-minute time slots. Your clipboard will also include a comment form for each project. You will have a conversation with each student during their review time slot and write comments on their form. The form will be returned to them later by their teacher. You will also give each student a ribbon for participating in Science Share. Time slots are 5:30, 5:50, 6:10, 6:50, and 7:10 p.m. We will hold a Community Scientist mentor briefing at 5:15 p.m. in the MPR.
